Weymouth-Dorset.co.uk (sister website)
In the meantime there is some local history on a sister website to this one: www.weymouth-dorset.co.uk - Radipole History
Just added to this site: Radipole Tithe Map 1841
As some in the locality may already know, I am currently writing a book about the history of Radipole. This includes the area covered by the ancient parish, viz. Radipole village and Causeway, Southill, Spa Road, Redlands, down the Dorchester Road to Greenhill. The history will cover from earliest times, the lands, church, farms and all other old buildings including houses, and also the people throughout those times. We do have some interesting characters from the past!
I have already been given help from some local residents in the village and all have been very kind. I have been lent documents, photographs and old postcards, been regaled with their personal stories of life in the village and what they remember. It is interesting, often amusing and I have thoroughly enjoyed talking to each of them.
I hope to get to see more local residents soon, so if you are one and would be interested in talking, please contact me:
If there is any aspect of the history that you are particularly interested in, I may have something about it and would be happy to share the knowledge. I also have a collection of photographs and old postcards, even two old paintings (one of the top of the lake/rectory area and one of part of the upper mill (Meadows) and Marwells Cottage).
On the sister website weymouth-dorset.co.uk there is a Forum dedicated to Radipole's history and genealogy and it can be found here: Radipole Forum You are welcome to join the forums and once a member you may post to them.
